Question 10: You are a lover of Food, and this book touches a little on that. Talk about how that developed for you and the story behind The Book of Burgers (the poem in the book).
I am a hardcore Foodie. Food is, literally, a religion for me. It's transformative, it's faith-based, it's ritualistic, and it's best served on Sundays. I am a big barbecue fanatic, and I have been known to drive hours out of the way on a road trip for a meal. Anthony Bourdain is my patron saint. That poem came from reading a book about the history of burgers in America and remembering how powerful and frustrating the burger was in my household growing up. Burger meat is fascinatingly mutable as an ingredient or as a main dish, and all kids love burgers, especially if they get to build them into crazy Dagwood-style towers. And parents are always lying about their burgers, about how you don't need a McDonald's hamburger because they can make one at home that's better. As it turns out, it usually is, but you don't know that until you're an adult with a palette and high blood pressure.
Each of the 10 questions will be released daily from 1/7/13-1/18/13, excepting weekends.
